What are Professor Junior Fernandes’ thoughts on Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competition?

In the world of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, competition serves as a crucible for personal growth and development. Professor Junior Fernandes, a seasoned practitioner and mentor in the art, holds a profound perspective on the significance of engaging in competitions. To him, competitions serve as invaluable opportunities for individuals to break free from their comfort zones and push their limits, regardless of age or rank.

He was proud of his children Ana Luiza Fernandes and Jorjao Fernandes for bringing home medals in this competition, one of the toughest ones. Jorjao won 3 fights and secured the third-place medal, while Ana Luiza also attained third place. Both being in the Juvenile category, they faced divisions not only with competitors from around the world but also within groups of 18 athletes per division. He is certain that this experience will bring them valuable lessons in life, regardless of what they choose to pursue in the future.

Alongside his children, he found pride in the students who stepped out of their comfort zones, faced their fears, and participated in the competition. A significant highlight was the student Margaret Wheatley, who clinched the Gold in a formidable division and proudly received the blue belt on the podium, marking a historic moment for all the students present. Several other students showcased incredible performances for the team, contributing to the overall success of the event.

A Journey from the Streets to the International Jiu-Jitsu Arena

In a heartening turn of events, Professor Junior, along with his wife, has managed to extend a lifeline to several children from underprivileged backgrounds through the Jiu-Jitsu for Good social project. These youngsters, hailing from impoverished communities in Brazil, have been given a rare opportunity – their maiden voyage abroad to compete in a prestigious championship.

In their hometowns, these children face a myriad of challenges. With limited prospects and rampant exposure to drugs and street life, their futures often seem bleak. However, the prospect of participating in an international competition has provided them with a beacon of hope and a newfound focus.

The journey from the streets to the championship mats has been transformative for these youngsters. With each training session and every match preparation, they are not only honing their athletic abilities but also cultivating discipline, determination, and resilience. Moreover, the camaraderie and mentorship provided by Professor Junior and his team have instilled a sense of belonging and purpose among these budding athletes.
