With events like the Orlando Open and the Pan Kids Championship, our athletes, both young and old, put their skills to the test. Keep reading to learn more about these exciting events and the incredible performances by our team.
Orlando Open
The Orlando Open took place on July 25th at the Silver Spurs Arena in Osceola Heritage Park, Orlando. This prestigious event featured both gi and no-gi divisions for juveniles and adults. The competition ran from 9 AM to 7 PM, providing a full day of intense and exciting matches.
On the first day, we had 12 competitors in the Gi division and 9 in the No-Gi division. We brought home a total of 23 medals. One competitor, Zack, stood out remarkably by winning 4 gold medals—two in his weight class and two in the open class, both in Gi and No-Gi competitions.
Pan Kids Championship
The Pan Kids Championship, organized by the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF), is recognized as the toughest competition for young Jiu Jitsu practitioners, starting from the age of 3. This prestigious event tests the skill, determination, and resilience of young athletes, making it a significant milestone in their martial arts journey. The championship includes various age and belt divisions, ensuring fair and competitive matches for all participants.
At this year’s Pan Kids competition, we were thrilled to have 12 competitors represent Athlas Training Team in what is known to be the toughest championship for young athletes, starting from the age of 3. The dedication and skill displayed by our team were truly inspiring, and we are immensely proud of all the children who participated. Their hard work and commitment paid off as they brought home 7 medals, a testament to their effort and the high level of training provided at Athlas.

At Athlas Training Team, we understand the crucial role of competition in the development of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ). Want to know some of the benefits that competing in Jiu Jitsu can offer you?
Experiencing Real-World Applications
First and foremost, competitions provide a platform for practitioners to apply techniques in real-world scenarios against equally skilled opponents. This experience is invaluable because it goes beyond routine practice sessions or sparring at your local gym. In a competition, every move and countermove carries significant weight, pushing practitioners to fine-tune their techniques under pressure.
Building Mental Resilience
Another critical aspect of competing is the mental growth it fosters. Jiu Jitsu competitions are as much a mental battle as they are physical. Preparing for and participating in tournaments teaches competitors how to manage stress, cope with nerves, and bounce back from setbacks—skills that are transferable to everyday life challenges.
Enhancing Technical Proficiency
Competitions drive individuals to improve their technical proficiency. Knowing that you will face various fighting styles and strategies pushes you to expand your own repertoire and adaptability. It encourages a deeper understanding of the sport as competitors analyze their performances and identify areas for improvement.
Fostering Community and Sportsmanship
Moreover, Jiu Jitsu tournaments help strengthen community ties and promote sportsmanship. They bring together practitioners from diverse backgrounds, fostering a sense of belonging and mutual respect among athletes who share the same passion for Jiu Jitsu.
