Jorjao Fernandes is one of the rising talents in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and a key member of the Athlas Training Team in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He began training at just four years old, growing up on the mats and developing strong technical foundations from an early age.
Today, Jorgão is a purple belt competitor with an impressive record in major tournaments. He is a World Champion (No-Gi) and has earned multiple titles at the Pan-American Championships, along with several other important achievements in IBJJF competitions. His consistency and discipline have placed him among the top competitors in his division.
From Athlete to Instructor
In addition to his competitive career, Jorgão plays an important role at Athlas Training Team as a kids instructor, working with students starting as young as three years old.
Because he started training at such a young age, he understands how to guide beginners with patience and structure. His classes focus on:
Building confidence from the first day
Teaching discipline and respect
Developing coordination and body awareness
Creating a safe and engaging environment for kids
Professional Development and Certifications
Jorgão has also invested in his professional growth beyond competition. He has completed important self-defense courses, expanding his knowledge in real-life application of jiu jitsu techniques.
In addition, he has taken IBJJF rules courses, which gives him a deep understanding of competition regulations. This allows him to better prepare students who are interested in competing, guiding them not only technically but also strategically according to official rules.
A Role Model for the Next Generation
Jorgão represents dedication, consistency, and long-term growth in jiu jitsu. As both an athlete and instructor, he inspires young students by showing what is possible through commitment and proper guidance.
At Athlas Training Team, his presence strengthens the mission of developing not only skilled practitioners, but also confident and disciplined individuals.
In addition to his group classes, Jorgão also offers private lessons for students who want more personalized training and faster progress in jiu jitsu.
